Top 5 Essential Vegan Kitchen Tools

Living a vegan lifestyle can be challenging, especially in the kitchen. Often, it feels like vegans have to go far out of the way to make foods that are both delicious and animal-free.

Fortunately, there are lots of kitchen tools that you can use to prepare tasty vegan foods!

 Cheesecloth

Cheesecloth

Did you know: cheesecloths aren’t just for cheese? They can be used to prepare two delicious vegan foods - tofu and kombucha!

Tofu is made by coagulating soy milk and pressing the resulting curds into a block.- the tofu. A cheesecloth is used at the end of the process to separate the curds from the whey. Give making tofu a try - though don’t be surprised if it’s a little messy your first time!

Drinking Kombucha is a great addition to a vegan diet! It’s packed with B vitamins (including the elusive vitamin B12), chelated iron, and probiotics - nutrients that are hard to find in other vegan foods. Plus, by making your own kombucha, you’ll save money and be able to experiment with flavors. We don’t want to get into the process right here (it’s a little complicated), but if you want to give kombucha a try, check out this article.

Food Processor

Food Processor

A food processor is an essential tool for vegan cooks. It can be used for virtually anything, from blending fruit-based breakfast smoothies, processing your own nut butter, or even making your own hummus from chickpeas. We can’t believe we ever bought hummus from the store before! How did man survive without food processors? We’re not sure...

Avocado Slicer and Pitter

Avocado Slicer and Pitter

Avocados are a great source of protein and fat on a vegan diet, but their protective outer shell and odd shape make them difficult to open and slice. The avocado slicer and peeler makes it easy to open avocados and add them to meals to get healthy, vegan fats. Plus, you can repurpose the tool to open other pitted fruits like mangos and dates.

Roasting Pan

Roasting Pan

No tool in the kitchen is more versatile than the roasting pan. Using olive oil, salt, pepper, and seasoning, you can roast and make almost any vegetable delicious. For dinner, try your hand at making buddha bowls - a satisfying combo of roasted vegetables (sweet potatoes, kale, broccoli, or whatever you have), chickpeas, and your preferred vegan sauce (we recommend tahini sauce). You can also use your roasting pan to make roasted pumpkin seeds, as they’re packed with plenty of protein and healthy fats, while still being perfectly plant-based.

Pots, Topsoil, & Lettuce Seeds

Pots, Topsoil, & Lettuce Seeds

Okay… we cheated a little here 😉 but growing your own lettuce is a great way to stay supplied with leafy greens that can be used for salads, sandwiches, roasting, and more. There are plenty of guides on how to grow leafy greens indoors, but the main things you’ll need are containers, topsoil, and plenty of light. When you grow your own lettuce, there are other benefits, like the sense of satisfaction you get when it’s ready to eat, or the fact you’ll get a second and third harvest from one plant (if done correctly).
Plus, another green plant never fails to liven up your kitchen!

So… what vegan foods are you looking to try next, either eating or preparing? Do you have any tool suggestions for cooking at home?
